Nicholas Turcan is a creative powerhouse with a passion for quilting that’s as bold as his designs. He began quilting in 2012, drawn in by the artistry and expression it offered. One project quickly turned into many, and before long, quilting had become more than a hobby—it became his entire life!
As his skills grew, so did his desire to connect with others through quilting. Nicholas began working part-time at a local quilt shop, where he immersed himself in fabric, technique, and design—and discovered a love for teaching.
Whether helping someone choose their first pattern or guiding a class through free-motion quilting techniques, he found that sharing knowledge was just as fulfilling as creating.
By 2020, he made the leap into longarm quilting full time. The timing aligned with a global shift toward online learning, and Nicholas embraced the opportunity to teach virtually. What started with a few Zoom classes grew into a full slate of workshops, trunk shows, and video tutorials, reaching students across North America and beyond.
In early 2021, he moved into a dream studio on Vancouver’s Granville Island. The expanded space allowed Nicholas to launch his own custom filming setup, host virtual classes and serve as a base of operations for teaching. His workshops are known for being fun, relaxed, and encouraging—creating a safe space for quilters of all levels to explore their creativity and build skills with confidence. In 2025 he has found a new "forever" home!!! The Mystery Stitch Designs Studio Located at 319-8188 Manitoba St. in South Vancouver.
Today, Nicholas is a sought-after educator and mentor in the quilting community. Through Mystery Stitch Designs, he helps quilters tap into their creative potential, whether they’re just starting out or ready to master advanced techniques.
